What is a serving wine fridge?
Are you thinking of investing in a wine fridge but are overwhelmed by all the choice out there? Find out more about the advantages of a serving wine fridge, how it works, and if this model is right for you.
Serving wine fridge: definition
As its name suggests, a serving wine fridge allows you to bring bottles of wine to serving temperature, in other words, the optimal temperature at which to drink them.
It is important to note that not all wines are enjoyed at the same temperature:
- between 59 and 64°F (15 and 18°C) for red wines,
- between 43 and 46°F (6 and 8°C) for sweet white wines,
- between 46 and 53°F (8 and 12°C) for dry white wines,
- between 46 and 50°F (8 and 10°C) for rosé wines,
- and from 43 to 50°F (6 to 10°C) for sparkling wines and champagne.
Some wine serving fridges allow you to store different types of wine thanks to their adjustable uniform temperature zones (dual-zone, triple-zone cellars), or through a graduated temperature distribution (cooler at the bottom, warmer at the top) throughout the unit, depending on the type of wine you want to preserve.
Unlike wine fridges designed for wine aging, serving wine fridges are not designed for long-term storage.
Goguette’s Little Extra
To meet every need, there are also single-temperature wine serving fridges, which maintain a consistent temperature throughout the unit. They’re ideal for keeping one type of wine at the perfect serving temperature and are highly valued by professionals (restaurants, wine bars, brasseries, or wine shops) who need to store large quantities ready to be enjoyed.
Our single-temperature coolers can be adjusted from 41°F to 64°F (5 to 18°C), depending on the type of bottles you wish to store.
Advantages of a wine cooler
A serving wine fridge offers a number of advantages for wine lovers, be they novices or connoisseurs.
It keeps bottles at the ideal serving temperature, thereby avoiding any serving faux pas. Gone are those trips back and forth between the refrigerator and the dining table: your wine is always ready to be served in optimum conditions.
It is also possible to opt for a multi-purpose wine fridge with zoned temperature control. It allows you to store your wines for medium-term keeping in a dedicated compartment while simultaneously bringing your red, sweet white, or rosé wines to the ideal serving temperature for immediate enjoyment.
In addition to their practicality, wine coolers also ensure that your wine is protected from external factors such as light, temperature fluctuations, unsuitable humidity levels and vibrations. They are therefore both functional and practical, and essential for enjoying each bottle to its full. And we mustn’t forget their aesthetic appeal, which will add a stylish and sophisticated touch to every home.
Aging or serving wine fridge: which to choose?
Unlike a serving wine fridge, an aging wine fridge allows you to store your wines and keep them for several years, allowing them to fully develop their bouquet.
Far from competing with each other, these two models are complementary. Before choosing your wine fridge, ask yourself the following question: do I want to store fine wines over time, or do I want to have bottles at the ideal temperature to enjoy at mealtimes?
Depending on your answer, you will be able to select the model that best suits your needs.
